Director Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign Organisation, Mr Femi Fani Kayode has predicted a sweeping victory for President Goodluck Jonathan in the February Presidential election.
He said the south-west will not take a fool-hardy step of voting for General Muhammadu Buhari because of the damage he said Buhari did to their psyche with the manner his military regime humiliated some of their key leaders.
According to him, the people of south-west are not lethargic politically and hence would fight tooth and nail wiggle out of the claws of the opposition party, which according to him, had rendered the zone stagnated for years.
Fani-Kayode who made this known in a chat described the south-west as a zone with progressive inclination, a reason he said their voting pattern has always been in bloc during elections.
He said the people of south-west have realised that the APC governments has deceived them with failed promises, whereas the zone had been detached from the core and center of governance over the past few years to its great disadvantage.
He said the perceived marginalisation of the zone at the center of governance was the making of the APC, contending that with the return of the zone to the center after the February poll, it would be easy for it to recover all it had lost over the years.
He said the government of President Jonathan has all the same been magnanimous in its dealing with zone by siting the Federal government projects in all the state.
The Director of PDP Campaign said the projects of Jonathan’s government in the south-west are visible in Education, Power, Infrastructure, Port development and Railway.
He said the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan six-lane dual carriage after coming to full completion will not only boost the economy and commerce of the zone, but would also make it a preferred destination for investors from other parts of Africa.
According to him, south-west stands the chance of gaining more federal government’s attention with allocation of more projects to the zone after the swearing-in of President Jonathan in May 29 this year.
He said, “It is more heartwarming to note that south-west leaders had already endorsed President Jonathan, the Afenifere leaders had promised to fully support him, we have many traditional rulers from the zone who are already committed to the cause of Mr. President. These are signs that the APC will suffer a crushing defeat in the south-west come February.
“We are targeting the traditional bloc voting of the south-west to seal the victory for President Jonathan. The support we are already getting from the zone has been tremendous. We will latch on to that to make very wonderful outing in the zone at the nick of time.
“Mr President who has a very high regard for the south-west will be looking forward to a good victory in the zone, most importantly, given the programmes he had outlined for it when his second term in office would have taken off”
Fani-Kayode, however, urged members of the PDP in the south-west to get on board by not allowing the APC an inch of space during the election in order to widen the gap of victory for the PDP during the election.
