The long battle by supporters of the Republic of Biafra in the south-east zone of Nigeria took a new twist recently amid reports that advocates of Biafran Republic have opened an Embassy in Spain.
The embassy is seated in Victoria, Spain.
The struggles for actualisation of the Biafran Republic has been on for some time, as advocates have been operating a radio station based in the United Kindgom for daily propagation of the ideals of the proposed republic
The Embassy, according to reports, was officially opened on Saturday, Feb. 28, by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Director of Radio Biafra, London.
“It is another milestone in our drive towards Biafra’s restoration,” said a Radio Biafra broadcast from London monitored in Lagos.
In a prayer at the event, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu said: “We your children are gathered here in Vitoria Basque country O’Lord of Hosts, to do that which you have divinely mandated us to do.
“Today here in Northern Spain we open yet another chapter in this relentless effort to restore your kingdom upon the face of this earth.
“For the journey mercies you have granted us from all over the world here gathered we remain eternally grateful.
“From all over the world we have come to establish a firm base in this land from where your will must be done.
This year belongs to us Biafrans because in the end all glory and honour will be yours and yours alone. Iseee!”
The occasion was marked by joy and excitement in the faces of Biafrans from various countries converged in Spain to mark the epic event.
It could be recalled that Biafra made history in December, 2014, when its delegates attended AU meeting as member.
The Indigenous People of Biafra was invited to the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) General Assembly of the African Union (AU).
The Supreme Council of Indigenous People of Biafra backed up by Bilie Human Rights Initiative [BHRI] sent its maiden delegation after admission to the AU meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, having been invited like other countries.
Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Indigenous People of Biafra and former President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, said the invitation to attend the meeting came from Addis Ababa, the headquarters of the AU just as other countries in Africa were invited.
He explained that the delegation whose membership he did not disclose is expected to spend five days in Nairobi, Kenya for the meeting.
“We received our invitation from Addis Ababa the way others received theirs to be part of the meeting. And this means we are getting international recognition and opportunity to interact and present our case at the international level. It is a big leap forward,” Ikedife said.
There has been a dramatic change in the struggle to actualize the Biafran nation.
Check revealed that professionals, intellectuals and diplomats among the indigenous people of Biafra, home and abroad using legal framework outside the pattern of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), had taken up the struggle.
Political observers are watching to see how and when the federal Government will react to Biafra after 45 years of secession attempt which resulted in a civil war that left about three million Biafrans, especially women and children, dead.
