Ekitigate: HDP Presidential Candidate Faults Senate’s Confirmation Of Obanikoro

Abuja, March 16, 2015. Dr. Ambrose Owuru, the Presidential Candidate
of Hope Democratic Party (HDP), has said that the Nigerian Senate was
wrong to have confirmed the ministerial nomination of Senator Musiliu
Obanikoro.

It would be recalled that the Senate last week confirmed Obanikoro
whose nomination by President Goodluck Jonathan was trailed by
controversy over his alleged involvement in Ekiti gubernatorial
election rigging.

Owuru in a media parley to unveil the party’s “5-Plan Revolution for
a New Nigeria’’ in Abuja at the weekend said that the Senate’s action
was a reflection of PDP’s poor leadership quality.

He said that the Senate ought to have waited until the pending case
against Obanikoro over his alleged involvement in election
manipulation was disposed of before considering him for confirmation.

Owuru said that his party’s cardinal policy was anchored on promoting
welfarism and accountability in order to entrench good governance in
Nigeria.

The presidential candidate also said that if elected president, he
would ensure an independent Judiciary that is capable of guaranteeing
the people’s rights and access to justice.

He said the nation’s main problems were corruption and lack of
qualitative leadership, adding that the ruling PDP’s motivating factor
was “ only about capturing power and sharing the fallouts.”

“The PDP’s current approach to governance under President Jonathan is
on “autopilot, heading to nowhere. The PDP has no ideology. It is not
concerned about the people,’’ Owuru said.
