Fire Guts FCT High Court, Abuja, Headquarters

The Probate Registry section of the Federal Capital Territory High Court (FCT), Maitama, Abuja, was on Thursday evening gutted by fire.
The disaster which occurred about 5pm and lasted at least two hours before it was brought under control at about 7pm, was said to have completely destroyed the Probate Section of the court.
Property destroyed included office items and equipment in the office. No lives were lost or injuries sustained during the inferno.
Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incident said that the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electric fault or power surge.
Mrs Salamatu Usman, an eyewitness said she saw smoke thick black smoke billowing out of the building shortly before the smoldering fire that ensued.
“At first, it was a huge black smoke that we noticed coming out of the court building, then soon after, the fire erupted,’’ she said.
Official sources could not be reached on Thursday night for their comments on the incident, as all efforts made did not yield results.
It would be recalled that the court had already sent out invitations for the occasion of the valedictory court session in honour of the Chief Judge of the Court, Justice Ibrahim Bukar, who will retire on Tuesday.
The FCT High Court complex is the headquarters of the FCT High Courts handling a plethora of high profile cases still pending.
