*Says Akwa Ibom Must Not Vote To Be In The Opposition
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom, Chief Don Etiebet has asked the people of the state to vote massively for the APC during Saturday’s governorship poll in Akwa Ibom.
Etiebet said the need to rid the oil-rich state of the vestiges of the outgoing governor, Godswill Obot Akpabio and his plan to dominate the state perpetually by proxy has necessitated a change of guard in the state.
He said Akwa Ibom should not be in the opposition in the new political configuration in Nigeria, appealing to the people of the state to vote massively for the APC.
Etiebet said a vote for PDP in Akwa Ibom on Saturday would amount to putting the entire state in the pocket of Akpabio who he said has brought his stooge to run as the governor of the state.
Etiebet said voters in Akwa Ibom must stand on their feet to guide their votes during the coming governorship election in the state in order to frustrate the rigging plans of the state governor.
The business mogul said the candidate of PDP for Saturday’s governorship poll Udom Emmanuel is a neophyte in politics who he said is being forced on the state by the out-going governor to continue to milk the state by proxy.
He said rather, the electorate in Akwa Ibom should invest their trust in the APC governorship candidate; Umana Okon Umana has the wherewithal to reposition politics in the state as well as re-invent Akwa Ibom economically for the good of the common man.
He said Umana has earned the confidence of the political stakeholders in Akwa Ibom state given his wealth of experience, political savvy, humility, competence and preparedness to make the difference if voted into power.
Etiebet said he has been part of the political stakeholders who founded PDP and had since dumped the party on realizing that the custodians of the party in the state had derailed while pursuing utterly selfish agenda.
Speaking with a group of youths from PDP who recently decamped into APC in Akwa Ibom, Etiebet said each and every one of them should ensure that the vote out the PDP candidate during the governorship election in the state.
He said, “We helped Akpabio to climb into power, we stood by him and we did everything to make him succeed. But this man who knows next to nothing about politics became so full of himself and took everything in its stride for personal gains.
“The so call achievements he has been ascribing to himself were the initiatives of the former governor, Obong Attah. But what we celebrate in our state today is a litany of white elephant projects, unfulfilled expectations, huge debt overhand owed in the name of the people and general hopelessness on the part of the downtrodden.
“We have decided to vote for change in Akwa Ibom. The process of change has started taking place at the federal level and some of us felt that it must reach us in our state. To tell the truth, Umana O umana is the man we elders in Akwa Ibom have agreed to cede the political power of the state to and he will not disappoint us.”
Etiebet said the People of Akwa Ibom should believe in what he had said because he had the backing of political stakeholders in the state to declare support for Umana Okon Umana, as he listed names of strong politicians like Obong Attah as those who will make APC victory to happen on Saturday.
