The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari, the winner of the April 11 governorship election in Katsina State.
Prof. Lawal Bilbis, the Returning Officer who made the announcement in Katsina said that Masari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 943,085 votes to defeat the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Musa Nashuni, who scored 476,768 votes.
According to Bilbis him seven political parties took part in the election. He said that while Senator Yakubu Lado of PDM scored 50,361 votes, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi of APGA got 42,302 votes.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest the number of votes, Aminu Bello Masari of APC is declared the winner and returned elected,’’ Bilbis said.
Biblis who also noted that Saturday’s election was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the law was free and fair.
Masari, it would be recalled, was Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives during the President Olusgegun Obasanjo administration.
