Israeli President, Mr Reuven Rivlin, has said that the state of Israel would partner Nigeria in fighting the war against terrorism under the incoming administration of Nigeria’s President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
A statement issued by Mallam Garba Shehu, Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, on Monday in Abuja said Israel would also assist the Buhari administration in fighting corruption and develop Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
According to the statement, the collaboration was necessitated by the new alliance between Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, ISIS, a terrorist organization.
“The two countries face similar dangers and challenges in the daily struggle against those who want to terrorise their citizens.
“The latest news regarding the Boko Haram-ISIS alliance underscores the need for like-minded countries to unite in the fight against such radical terrorist organisations.
“I assure you that in this important campaign, Israel stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Nigeria,’’ the statement quoted the Israeli leader as saying.
It further said that diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Israel would hopefully be strengthened and become stronger under Buhari’s leadership.
