The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State in the just-concluded election, Mr. Labaran Maku, has rejected the result of the election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
In a statement issued in Lafia on Wednesday, Maku said he would ensure that justice was done on the issue.
“We will fight until freedom, liberty and justice are attained for all our people regardless of ethnic, religious and social origins,” the statement read in parts.
Maku alleged that there was conspiracy between Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security officials and political stakeholders to rob him of victory in the polls.
Maku, who said he did not lose the governorship election to incumbent Governor Tanko Al-Makura, also cited widespread fraud and reports of ballot box theft and irregularities which he apportioned to the state government.
He adduced discrepancies in the results to back his arguments.
Chairman of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Phillip Shekwo, denied Maku’s claims, saying the governor and the party needed not to condescend to the extent of interfering in an election which the people gave them overwhelming support.
The chairman advised Maku to accept defeat in good faith.
