The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Saturday paid congratulatory visit to Kaduna state governor-elect, Nasir El-Rufai, in Kaduna.
The governor-elect’s spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this via a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna.
According to Mr. Aruwan, the Emir, who led a delegation of Kano Emirate Council to Mr. El-Rufai’s Kaduna residence, congratulated the governor-elect and the people of Kaduna state for electing “a competent and capable governor who will provide sound leadership”.
The traditional ruler also urged the people of the state, irrespective of religion, ethnicity and political inclinations to pray and support Mr. El-Rufai for peace and even development, Mr. Aruwan said in his statement.
He quoted the Emir as expressing confidence that Mr. El-Rufai would provide strong leadership, good governance and unite the diverse peoples and faith communities of Kaduna State.
Mr. Sanusi further charged Mr. El-Rufai to remain focused on responsive and dedicated leadership and never to lose his connection to the people.
The Emir, who recalled his decades of friendship with Mr. El-Rufai, said he is delighted “that Nigerians with such ability and experience are stepping forward to offer themselves for leadership”.
Mr. Sanusi, according to Mr. Aruwan, prayed God to grant El-Rufai a successful tenure and bless the people of Kaduna State.
Thanking the Emir for the visit, Mr. El-Rufai praised him for his prominent role in helping to provide a positive redefinition of traditional leadership.
The statement also quoted the governor-elect as saying he would not disappoint his people.
He reportedly said, “I am grateful and humbled by your visit and prayers, I promise the people of Kaduna that I will not disappoint them. I will govern with fear of Almighty God and will unite our diverse people towards attaining real development.
“Our doors are open to all segments of our society. We will be a listening government and conscious of common good and to the glory of Almighty God. I will not let our citizens down by the grace of God.”
