HDP Urges Buhari To Probe AGF, EFCC, Others

Hope Democratic Party (HDP) has urged incoming President Muhammadu Buhari, to probe the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fuel subsidy scam.

HDP National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Sanni Usman, who issued the statement in Abuja on Thursday, said the probe was necessitated by their alleged roles in the fuel scarcity which had thrown the nation into chaos in the last two months.

The party took a swipe at the AGF’s office for refusing to arrest and prosecute alleged perpetrators of the fuel subsidy scam, which it described as an economic crime.

It also urged Buhari to beam his administration’s searchlight on the EFCC for allegedly refusing to bring the perpetrators to book to remove the country from the claws of the fuel subsidy scam perpetrators.

HDP which also demanded for a comprehensive probe of the fuel subsidy also urged Buhari to remove the fuel subsidy, saying it had been abused over time and elevated to a high scam platform.

It further accused the office of the AGF of conspiracy and clear connivance and official cover up in the fuel subsidy scam to the detriment of Nigerians and the Nigerian State.

The subsidy scam, it said, had cost Nigerians trillions of Naira, adding that it was being promoted by government officials, cronies and relations.

The party said the perpetrators were merely masquerading as players and fuel marketers for their principals and who were used to raise and donate over N160 billion for the campaign fund of the PDP.

It said: “Our provision remains that the Attorney General of the Federation and other such Ministers and the EFCC who played a major role in the connivance and encouraging the fuel subsidy scam should be probed to recover the trillions of naira belonging to Nigerians now in their possession.

“We demand that the government of Buhari must do this to earn the respect and confidence of Nigerians and the international community and to assuage the embarrassment the government officials have caused the entire nation and the suffering people of Nigeria”.

The party therefore, called on Nigerians to give maximum support to the new government in the quest to fight corruption and make Nigeria a better nation.
