Contrary to reports on frosty relationship between them, President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) are on same page on party matters, The Street Journal can report.Buhari and Tinubu, according to checks within APC, have been holding regular meetings, the two having started to work together on how to reposition the ruling party for consolidating the gains of power while addressing the challenges the party has been having.
There have been reports that since Buhari emerged as the President of Nigeria, he has been taking counsels from his close advisers on the need to cut Tinubu to sizes as a ploy for preventing him from hijacking the machinery of government at the expense of the President.
It was even reported that Tinubu was no longer welcomed at the seat of power with indications that he had been used and dumped by Buhari, while his relevance within the corridors of power has continued to wane.
Fueling the speculations on plots to decimate Tinubu politically was the manner his supposed candidates lost out in the power game at the National Assembly in which case Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara became Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives against Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila.
According to reports, Tinubu at the peak of the crises over elections of leadership for the National Assembly posts, had left Nigeria and technically shot out himself from the intrigues to prove that the problems in the National Assembly was never his making.
Since he returned to Nigeria last weekend, the Asiwaju, reports said, has continued to stay aloof, a reason he was said to have been invited to Abuja by President Buhari for meetings.
A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC disclosed that Buhari, Tinubu and Chief Akande are always together, most especially during leisure times, all brainstorming on the the state of APC and its well being.
He disclosed that both Buhari and Tinubu usually demonstrate their intimacy by breaking fasts together after which they hold discussions on party matters.
Tinubu had played major roles in the grace the APC had to dislodge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power during the last Presidential election.
His ability to hold the APC firmly in the south-west where he hails from had given the party a good leverage during the last presidential election, as the zone turned the pendulum of victory towards APC in a stiff contest with then ruling PDP.
However, there were reports of a drop in the relationship between the President and Tinubu shortly after the Buhari was sworn in as President, while the supposed frosty relationship between them was said to have been engineered by those around the President who never wanted Tinubu around him.
The lack of concerted efforts by APC leaders on giving directions to its members most especially those at the National Assembly has now accounted for the state of crises within the party, which looks more factionalised than never in history
The APC had in a statement said it would summon a meeting of its elders, NWC members, those in the BoT as well as its governors on taking the next line of action towards saving the party from total collapse.
