The police on Friday arraigned a 31-year-old man, Michael David, in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing his wife, Onyinyechi Dennis, over infidelity.
David, who lives at No. 24, Ojoku St., Olodi-Apapa, is facing a one-count charge of murder.
Inspector Emmanuel Ajayi, the police prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the alleged crime on April 7, at his residence of the given address.
The prosecutor said the accused stabbed his deceased wife to death with a kitchen knife, following a quarrel and fight which ensued over allegations of infidelity.
“David confronted the deceased over allegations that she was cheating on him, a fight ensued leading him to stab his wife to death,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which is punishable by death.
Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, who did not take the plea of the accused, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons.
He adjourned the case until July 17, 2015, pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, Lagos State.
