Police Rescue 9 Pregnant Girls From ‘Baby Factory’ in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command says it arrested an operator of a baby factory at Etiti in Amankwo-Ngwo Udi Local Government Area and rescued nine pregnant girls on Saturday.

Mr.Ebere Amaraizu, the spokesman of the e command, who confirmed the arrest, said the pregnant girls were rescued during a raid conducted by officers of the 9th Mile Division based on a tip-off.

He said that the police raided the private residence of the suspect from where he had been carrying out the alleged crime.

He said: “We had strong intelligence from about his activities. We had to put a tab on him for some time, which eventually paid off. Nine girls at various stages of pregnancy were rescued.’’

Amaraizu gave the names of the girls as: Stella James, 19, from Ohaozara, Ebonyi State; Eze Jennifer,19, from Obukpa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State; Ugwu Christabel,17, from Aku,Igbo-Etiti Enugu State; Happiness Mbaonu,17, from Nnewi, Anambra State; and Ovunna Ifeoma,20, from Ezza, Ebonyi State.

Others, he said, are Esther Nwankwo, 21, from Nkalagu, Ebonyi State; Onyedika Agu, 23, from Isuawa Awgu,Enugu State; Blessing James, 23, from Ohafia, Abia State and Chibueze Ujunwa,24, from Nenwenta, Aninri, Enugu State.
