In what appears like a melodrama, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has emerged as the new Senate President.
His emergence followed his nomination as the sole candidate, while senator Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party was elected as the deputy Senate President.
It was apparent that Saraki’s emergence was not with the support of the All Progressive Congress Senators who had earlier voted Senator Ahmed Lawan as their choice of Senate President last Saturday at the international conference center.
The election of Saraki as Senate President occurred at a time APC Senators were scheduled for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari who just returned to Nigeria from Germany.
The turn of event now appears to have rubbished efforts by the leadership of All Progressive Congress to put in place candidates of their choice as the Senate President and Deputy Senate President.
