Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru, on Monday said that his administration had concluded arrangement to give two she-goats and one he-goat each to 8, 610 widows across the state to rear as part of government’s women empowerment measures.
The Governor who disclosed this in a chat with journalists in Dutse, the state capital, explained that each widow would be given the breed that gives birth to three babies twice a year.
According to him, the decision to select the three-birth-a-year goat specie is informed by government consideration for its economic value to the women.
He said: “Between 25 and 30 widows will be selected from each of the 287 wards in the state to benefit from the programme.
“This will go a long way in assisting the women in taking care of their children in terms of feeding and schooling.’’
Badaru explained that the beneficiaries, being rural dwellers, would not face difficulties in finding feeds for the animals.
