Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has directed that the state government should take over the responsibility of catering for Mrs Ruth Uche, the the mother of three sets of twins, whose husband has run away from the family following their birth.
A statement issued by Mr Habib Aruna, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, obtained by the Street Journal on Saturday, says Ambode has directed his Deputy, Dr Oluranti Adebule, to ensure that the government immediately begins rehabilitation and provision of welfare to the woman and her children.
It would be recalled that the woman’s husband, Benjamin Uche, said to be a factory worker, absconded from their home soon after the third set of twins was delivered.
According to the statement, the governor’s attention was drawn to the plight of the woman following media reports about her condition during her distress visit to Government House.
“It is not proper for anyone to abandon his family, especially young children that they willingly brought to life.
“It is only when such children are properly taken care of that they can achieve their full potentials in life and become responsible citizens’’, the governor was quoted as saying.
It said Ambode noted that the wellbeing of the people of the state, irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political affiliation, remained paramount to his administration.
The Governor, it said, also assured that his government would continue to provide good leadership that would guarantee adequate protection of lives and property of all residents.
