Arepo Pipeline Explosion Caused By Vandals – Says Official

The Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that the oil pipeline explosion which occurred at Arepo, Ogun State, on Wednesday, was caused by vandals.

The spokesman of the PPMC, Mr Nasir Imodagbe,confirmed to newsmen in Lagos that the explosion was caused by vandals in an attempt to siphon petroleum products from the pipeline.

He said: “Our engineers and fire fighters are seiously fighting to ensure that the fire is put off.

“We have shut down the products channel line to avert continuous continuous burning of the pipeline. We cannot confirm the level of damage and casualty for now until the fire is put off.”

It would be recalled that an explosion occurred at the Arepo end of the NNPC oil pipeline on Wednesday, culminating in a huge inferno, with many feared injured.
