The Bauchi State Police Command on Saturday said that a policeman serving with the command, Corporal Solomon Paul, died while on Eid-el-Fitr special patrol duty.
The deceased policeman was said to have met his untimely death when he brought his head out of a moving patrol vehicle and knocked his head against a highway barrier meant to restrict heavy trucks from plying a road.
The late Corporal was said to have become unconscious and later died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) Bauchi.
Mr Haruna Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and Bauchi State Police Command spokesman who confirmed the incident to newsmen, described it as “tragic”.
He said: “The incident occurred when the victim (PC Solomon Paul, F/N 499348) brought his head out of the roof of a moving patrol vehicle while on special duty.
“As a result, his head hit the overhead barrier meant to restrict heavy trucks from plying the road, and became unconscious.’’
Mohammed said that the deceased was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment but was later certified dead by a medical doctor.
Until his death, the late Corporal was attached to Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit of the state Police Command.
