Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, on Sunday said that his predecessor, Ibrahim Shema, had misappropriated crude excess funds amounting to N76.6 billion and diverted N7.5 billion to his pocket.
The Governor disclosed this in Katsina when he received the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, who paid him Sallah homage.
Masari stressed that he was in possession of concrete evidence of stealing against Shema, saying the former governor would only be spared prosecution if he returned the looted money.
The governor further alleged that Shema had paid N1.8 billion to some media proprietors to engage in a media campaign of calumny against his efforts but he remained undaunted in accomplishing the task before him.
Governor Masari promised to recover all the state’s stolen funds from those who conspired to loot and milk it dry in order “to correct past mistakes and bring sanity into the public service.”
“No amount of intimidation will stop us from probing Shema’s administration. It is better for them to return all the looted money or face the wrath of the EFCC. We will run an open door policy,’’ he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Emir had assured Masari of Daura people’s support and cooperation with his administration to enable him to succeed.
