President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday night met with aggrieved members of the House of Representatives, led by Femi Gbajabiamila, at the State House, Abuja.
There were 30 members in the delegation, including Senator Abu Ibrahim from Katsina who apparently brokered the meeting.
The meeting started at about 9:55 pm at the First Lady’s Conference Room, after Buhari had walked in five minutes earlier with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
Before journalists were excused from the meeting, Senator Ibrahim told the President that the guests came to Aso Rock Villa to “ascertain things” regarding the latest crisis in the National Assembly.
The parley comes against the background of the crisis that has engulfed the National Assembly following the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate President, and Yakubu Dogara as House Speaker as well as other principal officers against the wish of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was also expected to meet the faction loyal to Senator Ahmad Lawal who was floored at the June 9 election by Senator Saraki in another attempt to calm frayed nerves, followng the seeming failure of the party’s governors to broker a truce.
