A group, the Network of Civil Society Organizations, has warned the All Progressives Party (APC) against the removal of Chief John Oyegun, the party’s National Chairman, in what it described as the ‘’use and dump’’ style of the opposition PDP.
Mr. Lawal Bamidele, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, gave the warning at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, amidst calls for Oyegun’s resignation.
According to the group, it is unfortunate and distractive for some individuals to call for the resignation of Oyegun after he led the APC to an unprecedented feat for the party by defeating a sitting president in Nigeria.
Bamidele said that the group had passed a vote of confidence on Oyegun who, he said, deserved commendation rather than condemnation at this point in time.
“It is rather unfortunate and distractive that certain individuals are calling for the resignation of the APC National Chairman at this time when he has barely led the party to accomplish an unprecedented feat of defeating a sitting President.
“This unprecedented feat demands commendation as against condemnation.
“APC is a party that preaches change, and should not be seen to be re-enacting the usual People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s syndrome of use and dump”, he said.
The group, therefore, called on the National Assembly under Senate President Bukola Saraki’s leadership, and Reps Speaker, Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara, to cooperate with APC leaders and place party supremacy above personal interest.
It further called on the entire APC leadership organogram to give the party National Working Committee (NWC) the needed support and synergy needed for greater future party performance.
