Mr Augustine Obaji, acommercial bus driver in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has been killed by unknown persons.
The Street Journal gathered that Obaji was found dead on Saturday on the Okwor- Idiokpo Market road in the area after his assailants inflicted severe injuries on him.
Sources told our correspondent that the victim had picked passengers at Odumoke market en-route Okwor Mgbo market, but did not return home, following which his wife called him on his phone to no avail.
Consequently, the following day, his relatives commenced a search for him, saw his bus along Idiokpo road and on drawing closer, discovered his lifeless body on the car’s steering.
They contacted the police station at Okwor Mgbo and officers evacuated the corpse and bus and deposited his corpse at Mgbo General Hospital.
Mr Chris Anyanwu, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in an interview with newsmen on Sunday.
Anyanwu said: “We have commenced investigations into the matter and are assuring the public that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
“We also want to assure the public that the command is determined to rid the state of crimes and criminals and we solicit assistance through the provision of useful information.”
However, the police spokesman could not confirm if the driver’s death was as case of assassination or armed robbery.
