The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged plans by Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, to obtain loans of N100 billion from various banks in two months. The party, which also alleged that the aim of the borrowing is to plunge the state into debt and economic servitude, said Wike plans to obtain the loans in tranches of N10 billion, N20 billion, N30 billion and N40 billion within the period.
APC, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Chris Finebone, was reacting to two approvals granted the governor in less than one month by the Rivers State House of Assembly to obtain N10 billion and N20 billion loans from Zenith Bank and Access Bank, respectively.
The statement reads in part, “The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter has uncovered a strategic plan by Governor Nyesom Wike to obtain loans totaling N100b in the few months he is expected to be in power as the governor of Rivers State thereby plunging the state into an abyss of debt and economic servitude.
“According to the plan, the governor plans to collect the said amount in tranches of N10b, N20b, N30b and N40b within a period of two months.
“Information we are privy to, strongly indicates that the governor and his men have started negotiation with Heritage and Eco Banks to obtain another loan of N30b in the coming week or so. This will bring the total amount of loan obtained by the embattled governor to N60b in less than 45 days as governor of Rivers State.
