The Lagos State Senatorial Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja on Thursday fixed Sept. 18 for judgment on the petition filed by Mr Segun Adewale, the candidate of the PDP in the March 28 Lagos West Senatorial District Election.
Adewale had approached the tribunal seeking to nullify the election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, incumbent Senator Solomon Adeola, as declared by INEC.
The tribunal chairman, Justice Sylvanus Oriji, after listening to the submissions of the counsel to the parties, who adopted their final written addresses, reserved judgment till Sept. 18.
Justice Orji said: “Having listened to the submissions of the parties’ lawyers and their final written addresses, I hereby adjourn this case till Sept. 18 for judgment.’’
The petitioner’s counsel, Dr Yemi Oke, had contended that Sen. Adeola’s nomination as APC candidate for the election was invalid and urged the tribunal to annul it and declare him the winner of the poll instead.
Adeola’s counsel, Dr Muiz Banire, in his submission, had urged the court to dismiss Adewale’s petition on the grounds that the petitioner failed to prove the allegations against the respondents beyond reasonable doubt.
