The Defence Headquarters has said that the Nigerian military was capable of crushing the Boko Haram insurgency currently ravaging the North-East of the country with the cooperation of the citizens.
A statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by defence spokesman, Col. Rabe Abubakar, said that the military was intensifying efforts to continue to break the “bones of the terrorists.’’
It reassured Nigerians that the military would not relent in its efforts to rid the country of terrorism and all acts of criminality.
According to the statement, the asymmetric warfare calls for collective effort of the public and security agencies in information gathering and sharing.
It, therefore, advised the public to always give timely information to security agencies in order to avert the re-occurrence of the insurgency attacks.
“Defence Headquarters is therefore appealing to the public to be extra vigilant and be wary of strange faces and objects in their localities.
“Every step is being taken to neutralise the capability of terrorists whose activities still continue to constitute danger to civil populace. They are in disarray while running away from their former safe haven and no longer capable of confronting the troops,’’ the statement said.
Abubakar condemned the recent spate of suicide attacks in the North-East consequent upon which scores of innocent lives have been lost.
“Those perpetrating these heinous crimes are callous, barbaric and monsters whose activities will soon be a thing of the past,’’ the statement added.
