The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it will zone the party’s 2019 presidential ticket to the northern part of the country.
Prince Uche Secondus, the party’s acting National Chairman, made the disclosure while receiving the report of the party’s Post-Election Review Committee led by the Senate Deputy President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, which was saddled with the responsibility of doing a post-motem of its poor performance in the 2015 general elections.
Explaining the decision which he said was taken by PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure the party’s survival, Secondus said it was based on the recommendation of the committee and based on the party’s zoning principle.
According to Secondus, the NWC absolutely agreed with the committee that PDP’s presidential candidate for 2019 will come from the North, and stressed the need for the party to move forward, through obedience of its own constitution, its rule and the principle of zoning.
“The NWC will commence the implementation of this report by passing it through all consultative and decision making organs of the party up to the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Convention Committee.
“Equally, you can be assured that those of us in the NWC will put in place machinery to review and implement recommendations that are very urgent,’’ Secondus said.
