An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Thursday remanded Tope Thomas, 32, charged with defiling his neigbhour’s three-year-old daughter, in Kirikiri Maximum Prison.
Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri Prison, after hearing the plea of the accused who pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge read to him.
The judge ordered that the accused be remanded in the Prison, pending receipt of legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Thomas, a resident of No. 4, Mafo Close, Off Abeokuta Road, Ogba, Lagos, was arraigned on a two-count charge of defilement and breach of peace.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Jimah Iseghede, who read the charge preferred against the accused, said the accused invited the three-year-old girl to his house and raped her in the toilet on August 28.
Iseghede said the mother of the minor, who heard the cry of her daughter, rushed to the scene and met the accused raping her.
The alleged crime violate the provisions of Sections 137 and 166(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Code, 2011.
The judge adjourned the case to November 11, pending the report of the legal advice from the DPP.
