The police on Thursday announced a complete ban on the use of commercial vehicles by its personnel for the purpose of patrol duties.
A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Olabisi Kolawole, an Assistant Commissioner of Police and acting Force Public Relations Officer, said the ban was directed by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase.
All police commands and formations, according to the statement, are, therefore, directed to stop the use of commercial vehicles for operations and patrol duties.
It further explained that the practice of the police using commercial vehicles for their operations, has had negative consequences and the I-G’s decision was informed by complaints from the public.
Kolawole stressed that all police formations and commands across the country had been communicated of the ban and warned that severe sanctions awaited any command that flouted the directive.
