The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Jos on Saturday dismissed the petition of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Mrs Ayisa Sambo, challenging the election of Sen. Jonah Jang of the PDP as senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District.
Sambo had sought to nullify the declaration of Jang by INEC as winner of the polls held on March 28.
Delivering judgment, the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Justice O.O. Akeredolu dismissed the petition on grounds of lacking in merit.
According to the tribunal, the APC and its candidate fail to prove their case beyond reasonable doubts.
The tribunal further held that the witnesses presented by the petitioners were not present at the polling units on the day of the election, so they had only testified on hearsay.
It also said the evidences presented by the petitioners were not properly certified and so could not hold water.
The tribunal also held that the allegations of over-voting, which is criminal, as presented before it against Jang was not proved beyond reasonable doubt.
“Therefore, the petition failed in its entirety and it is hereby dismissed for lack of merit,” the tribunal added.
