The Court of Appeal sitting in Jos, on Friday, dismissed an appeal filed by Mrs Eunice Sambo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the March 28 Senatorial election for Plateau North District and her party, challenging the election of PDP candidate, ex-governor Jonah Jang and upheld his election as a Senator.
The Street Journal recalls that Sambo and APC had appealed against the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal, which had affirmed the victory of Jang at the polls.
Delivering judgement, the tribunal chairman, Justice J.S Ikyegh, held that the petitioners could not substantiate the claims contained in the exhibits they tendered in relation to alleged electoral malpractice.
The tribunal, therefore, dismissed the petition for lacking in merit.
It would be recalled that the PDP won all the three Senatorial seats for Plateau State in the election with Jang, for Plateau North, ex-governor Joshua Dariye, for Plateau Central, and ex-FCT Minister, Jeremiah Useni, for Plateau South.
However, EX-Speaker, Barrister Simon Lalong of the APC, won the governorship election and the tribunal on Monday affirmed his victory over the PDP candidate, Senator Gyang Pwajok, who died on Wednesday, just two days after the judgment.
The Court of Appeal is the highest court to decide a Senatorial election case, so Jang will remain the Senator for Plateau North.
