President Muhammadu Buhari has withdrawn the name of Niger State’s Ahmed Ibeto as a ministerial nominee. The Street Journal recalls that Ibeto was the immediate past Deputy Governor of Niger State under PDP Governor Babangida Aliyu.
On Wednesday’s plenary session of the Senate slated for the screening of the ministerial nominees, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, read out a letter sent by President Buhari on Ibeto’s withdrawal from the list.
No reason was given for the president’s surprise decision to withdraw the former Deputy Governor’s name from his list of would-be ministers.
However, our correspondent gathered that another nominee from Niger State, Mr Ibrahim Bawa, has been nominated to replace Ibeto, whose name was on the first batch of nominees and is also a former member of the House of Representatives.
It would be recalled that Ibeto had fallen out with ex-Governor Aliyu and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
