The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, on Monday, quizzed ex-Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswan, on allegations bordering on corrupt enrichment while he was in office between 2007 and May 2015.
Confirming Suswam’s invitation and questioning by the EFCC, the commission’s spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwajuren, said that the former governor was being questioned vis-a-vis “corruption investigation in Benue State.”
The Street Journal recalls that Mr Omadachi Oklobia, Suswam’s Finance Commissioner, was similarly questioned by EFCC in Abuja last Friday.
Our correspondent gathered that Oklobia was asked by the commission’s operatives to explain what he knew about alleged diversion of public funds, abuse of office, embezzlement and fraud during Suswam’s tenure.
It would also be recalled that Suswam, who prior to becoming governor, was a House of Representatives member from 1999 to 2007, was reported to have been arrested in London over alleged wife battering.
The relationship between the embattled ex-governor and his wife, Yemisi, is said to be estranged over accusations of marital infidelity, although Suswam recently denied this in a statement.
