olice Arrest 200-Gang Armed Robbery Leader, Others
The Kano State Police Command has said that it had arrested a notorious leader of a 200-member armed robbery gang popularly known as Datti Rodi in Gani village of the state.
Mr Muhammad Katsina, the state Commissioner of Police, announced this to newsmen on Sunday while on a visit to Gidan-Kare village in Sumaila Local Government Area, which has been deserted by residents following a barrage of open-ended attacks by armed robbers recently.
The Street Journal recalls that Karasa, Murmushi, Gomo, Burum-burum, Gani, Masu, Sitti villages, were also deserted by residents due to the endless attacks by the bandits.
The CP who said that he was in the area to assess the security situation and map out strategies to rid the area of the menace of armed bandits, said the police had also apprehended 69 cattle rustlers in September alone.
He enjoined residents who fled their villages due to the activities of armed bandits to return, saying he had put in place adequate measures and will soon deploy more policemen to the villages to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
Katsina further disclosed that of the number arrested, 46 suspects were among the most wanted armed bandits in the area, while the remaining 23 suspects were arrested for cattle rustling.
A total of 20 goats and sheep, 31 rifles and pistols, 240 cartridges of ammunition and 68 cattle, out of which 30 had been returned to their owners, were recovered from the criminals by the police.
The police boss said all the suspects will soon be charged to court.
