The Katsina State Police Command has said that it rescued two children from suspected child kidnappers in the state and also killed one of the hoodlums during exchange of fire when the police engaged them in a hot pursuit.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Abdullahi, who announced this at a press briefing, said the suspected kidnappers had on October 10 invaded Mahuta Village in Dandume Local Government Area of the state on four motorcycles to carry out their nefarious act.
According to the CP, the hoodlums entered the residence of one Rabiu Maidara and demanded for a large sum of money from him, failing which they abducted two of his children at gunpoint.
He said that the police immediately swung into action by pursuing the criminals when the family reported the incident to the police.
Abdullahi said that the hoodlums opened fire on the policemen pursuing them and an exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the killing of one of the kidnappers.
“Our response to distress call used to be within five minutes, but we have reduced it to three minutes.
“While the two kids were rescued unhurt, three of the hoodlums, however, escaped,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the items recovered from them included four motorcycles, one AK 47 rifle, ammunition, cutlasses, mobile phone, two clothing materials and N2, 000 cash, and implored the public to always avail security personnel of useful information to help them rid the state of criminals.
