Wife of the President Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari says children parliament is a veritable platform that would prepare Nigerian children for leadership positions as future leaders.
She said the idea of establishing such platforms for children at tender age would make them to develop confidence and ability to make greater impact as leaders of tomorrow.
Mrs Buhari was speaking through the wife of the former Bayelsa State Governor Mrs Alayinge Sylva at the inauguration of the FCT childrens parliament in Abuja.
The wife of the president who also noted the parliament as a launching pad to the rudiments of societal evolution advised state Governments to emulate the practice of the childrens parliament.
Mrs Buhari said the practice was a clear demonstration that children have embraced the path to democracy , political consciousness and eventually offer them the opportunity of being” valued members of our society as future leaders of this great country” in Nigeria.
She noted that the practice will make them respect rules and processes through which they can realise their dreams and wished them successful delibrations and tenure in office.
In his response the permanent secretary of the federal capital who was represented by ,Mr Salisu Kallamu ,director of finance,expressed appreciation to the wife of the president for being the special guest of the parliamentarians to the 4th assembly and promised to guide them to steer their affairs effectively .
The parliamentarians who demonstrated their first session comprises of 60 children with the objective of having a common voice to advance their interest as enshrined in the child’s right Act .. Over 90 schools participated in the keenly contested election held in April 2015.
The speaker of the parliament master Ogriale Nwaka thanked members for electing him as the speaker of the 4th assembly and promised to address issues concerning children’s welfare with utmost despatch in the federal capital .
