Ahead Saturday’s Kogi governorship election, the chances of the PDP candidate, Captain Idris Wada, have been dealt a fatal blow with Monday’s wave of defection of the party’s stalwarts to the APC few days to the polls.
Those who defected to APC include Senator Smart Adeyemi, Hon. Duro Meseko, a former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Kabba/Bunu Federal Constituency, Mr Fehinti Dada, director-general of the Smart Adeyemi political organisation and former chairman of Ijumu Local Government Council, with thousands of their political followers.
Alhaji Abubakar Audu, the APC governorship candidate, who received the defectors, commended their courage, saying the wind of change spreading across the country had finally come to Kogi and urged them to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the party to ensure that it emerges victorious at the election.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Dada said he and the other members of the organisation defected from the PDP because the party had failed the people of Kogi state in so many ways.
“A survey conducted by the organisation showed that the PDP-led administration in the state had collapsed activities at the third tier of government and placed council staff on percentage pay,”he said.
Also speaking at the reception, Senator Dino Melaye, Kogi-West, advised the defectors to join hands with APC’s old members in order to defeat the ruling PDP in Kogi State.
“Abubakar Audu remains the best of the candidates jostling to rule the state because of his wealth of experience in statecraft and verifiable achievements that have continued to affect lives positively across the state,” Adeyemi said.
