The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has denied that it awarded any N6 billion contract for Landscaping and Car Park as alleged in a section of the social media.
The Street Journal reports that a section of the social media had alleged that the Director General of the agency, Mr Sani Sidi, awarded the said contract.
NEMA spokesman, Mr Manzo Ezekiel, in a statement on Friday, said that it never awarded any contract of “such huge and imaginary sums.”
The agency attributed the allegation to be the handiwork of “some faceless self-appointed whistle blowers and blackmailers” and challenged the blackmailers parading themselves as whistle blowers to come up with their facts.
According to NEMA,such self-appointed whistle blowers were using the social media to dish out their falsehood to the unsuspecting general public.
It noted that a simple logic would reveal that the quoted sum for the contract was above the approval limit of its Director-General and as such, it was practically impossible for the contract to have been awarded by him.
The agency, therefore, implored security agents to rise to the challenge by fishing out the culprits for investigation and bring them to book.
It also urged the security agents to move against them because they were just out to blackmail and extort individuals and public institutions for pecuniary reasons, and noted that the purported whistle blowers had no known contacts.
The statement reads in part:
“The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency is drawn to a false and baseless allegation circulating on the social media against the agency and its management over a purported six billion Naira contract for landscape and car park.
“Ordinarily, the falsehood should not deserve any attention, however, for the sake of the unsuspecting public, as well as the integrity of the public officers targeted by the faceless accusers, it is imperative to clarify that the said publication is nothing other than the wild imaginations of the faceless mischief makers desperately bent on casting aspersions on the reputation of Director General of NEMA, Management and Staff, through the falsehoods, forged documents and baseless innuendos.
“While the blackmailers claimed that the contracts were awarded by the Director General of the Agency, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, NEMA has never awarded contract of such huge and imaginary sums for car park and landscaping and challenges the blackmailers parading themselves as whistle blowers to come up with their facts”.
It added that the agency had set in motion a machinery to institute legal action against the faceless group when eventually unmasked by security operatives.
