There is an uneasy calm in two border communities of Kafanchan town, Jema’a Local Government Area in Kaduna State, and Riyom in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, following the killing of two police mobile officers at a security checkpoint in Nimbia Village of Kaduna State.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, Plateau State spokesman of the Special Task Force, STF, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said the incident took place on Sunday, adding that the victims were members of the Kaduna STF.
Iweha said the remains of the victims have been taken to Kafanchan, and no arrests have been made after STF troops pursued the assailants to no avail.
He, however, said the STF was leaving no stone unturned in its determination to apprehend the hoodlums, and has reinforced its troops to continue the search for the suspected assailants.
The Street Journal recalls that Riyom is one of the three local governments in Plateau State that have been bedeviled by incessant attacks by unknown gunmen in recent times, while Kafanchan falls within the southern fringes of Kaduna State which has suffered a similar fate.
