Let’s Join Hands to Build Akwa Ibom, Gov. Emmanuel Tells Opposition

In show of good sportmanship, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has reached out to the opposition parties, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC), to join hands with him to build a virile state, where all will be happy.
In a broadcast to the people of the state, which was aired immediately the court affirmed his election as the validly elected governor for the state, Wednesday, Emmanuel, has tasked all to join him in the task of bringing development to the state.
He said: “I hereby call on our brothers and sisters from the other side of the political divide to close ranks and join me, in moving Akwa Ibom state to surpass superior performance and ensure development that is sustainable, impactful and expansive.
“We don’t have any other state to call ours except the great Akwa Abasi Ibom State,”Emmanuel said.
The Governor added, “The other side had a right to aspire to power, even though we don’t agree with their approach and mechanics.
“Politics should not be used as a wedge issue to divide brothers and sisters, politics should not be an instrument that creates disharmony among an otherwise homogenous people, and we should resist the impulse to stoke ethnic fire among otherwise happy brothers and sisters.
“As I have always stated: political foes of today may be political allies tomorrow. We should be guided by this ennobling ideal.”
The governor said every political contest must produce a winner and a loser.
But he said that in this case, the people of Akwa Ibom state won “because in their reasoning, their fortunes would be better enhanced with a PDP government continuing its solid dispensation of democratic dividends that had in the past eight and half years, had transformed our state to a destination of choice.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have hailed the Supreme Court for upholding the elections of all its governors, describing the court as the saviour of democracy in the country.
In a statement, after the court upheld the elections of Governors Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Okey Ikpeazu of Abia State, the PDP Governors’ Forum said the verdicts have reinforced the belief that the judiciary remains the hope of the common man.
The statement signed by Osaro Onaiwu, coordinator of the Forum, stated that “what the apex court has done was to save the country from being balkanised by the APC in its avowal to undermine the integrity of the courts and jettison the sacredness of the ballot box”.
Onaiwu said the PDP would continue to work to strengthen the country’s legal process as well as democratic norms.
