Police Saves Clash Between Supporters of PDP, APGA in Abuja

In what would have turned out to be a major bloody clash between supporters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Kuje area of Abuja, was aborted by the Police on Saturday.
The bone of contention was said to be over campaign billboard, ahead of the forthcoming council elections in the area.
However, the timely intervention of a team of policemen from Kuje station brought what would been break down of law and order under control. Before the arrival of the police, it was learnt supporters of both parties were already mobilising for a show down.
Trouble was daid to have started over an attempt to remove the campaign billboard with the image of Mr Shabab Tete, the council chairman who is seeking re-election on the platform of the PDP.
The billboard was mounted in front of the Council secretariat.
Speaking on the clash, Kuje PDP Youth Leader, Adamu Dogo, said the billboard was mounted by some PDP supporters who later left to APGA.
Dogo said the fight started when the defected members attempted to replace the board with the image of Haruna Yerima, the APGA candidate, in the forthcoming election.
“The billboard was mounted by PDP and the APGA people have no right to remove the image of our candidate, and put their own.
“Even if the decamped supporters of PDP were among those that mounted the billboard, the finance came from the ruling party, PDP.
“They should wait till after March 19 after the people have decided who they want as Kuje Chairman,’’ he said.
