Five Killed in Early Morning Building Collapse in Lagos

Five people were reportedly killed in a collapsed building in the Lekki Garden Estate area of Lagos State, Tuesday morning.
The spokespersons for the National Emergency Management Agency, South West zone, Ibrahim Faronloye, and the Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, confirmed the incident and said search and rescue operation was ongoing.
Five unidentified dead bodies have been recovered so far from the rubble, while one was rescued alive.
It was gathered that the collapsed building was completed less than a year ago. The incident was said to have occurred around 5 am, during the heavy rainfall.
“So far, we have recovered five dead bodies and six persons have also been rescued. Though, we cannot ascertain the total number of trapped people, but rescue operation is still on-going.”
Rescue operation is being conducted by responders such as; National Emergency management Authority, NEMA, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Civil Defence Corp, Merchant Navy and members of the state police command.
