Edo LG Workers Cry for 13 Mths Salary as Chairman Tenure Ends

It was agony, tears, displayed by workers of Egor Local Government Council, Edo State as they poured onto the Benin streets on Monday to protest non-payment of their 13 months salaries.

This is as the tenure of the Chairman, Victor Enobakhare, ends this week.

Official activities were grounded at the local government Secretariat.

The tenure of local government Chairmen and councillors across the state will end on Friday 22nd April, 2016.

Workers, who spoke to journalists said local government Chairmen have engaged in last minute looting of councils’ properties and treasury with phoney contracts.

They lamented that even when council workers couldn’t get money for Christmas, New Year and Easter celebration, some of the Chairmen were busy organizing parties, and building mansions to the detriment of their arrears of salaries that are yet to be paid.

Meanwhile, the Edo State House of Assembly has directed council Chairmen across the 18 Local Governments to hand over power to their Head of Service latest on Thursday 21st April, 2016.

Workers in the council including political appointees lamented the inability of the Chairmen to pay their claims, saying that records in their various accounts department showed that claims concerning the Chairmen have been paid to date.
