The news of a patient, who reportedly died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) of Lassa Fever is currently causing panic and amxiety at the hospital.
Impeccable sources at the hospital disclosed that the patient whose identity could not be verified as at press time, died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital, after a surgical operation, and this is causing a lot of anxiety among those who came in contact with the patient.
The sources who craved anonymity as they were not authorised to speak on the issue, further disclosed that all the doctors, nurses and other auxiliary staff in the theatre and the Intensive Care Unit who had contact with the late patient are currently being quarantined and closely monitored for symptoms of the hemorrhagic disease in the hospital.
It was also gathered that all equipment that were used to treat the patient both in the theatre and the ICU are also being quarantined and sterilised.
All effort made to get confirmation from the Hospital management failed as calls made to the cell phone on the Hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Kehinde Ibitoye, went unanswered.
On her part, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Aihianuwa Eregie, said she was not aware of the incident.
“No, no, no, I don’t have this information bit I will confirm to know if the death was caused by Lassa Fever,” she said.
