Lawyer Arraigned for Stealing N10m

The lawyer is charged with a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretence and stealing.
The case is before Magistrate Mrs. O. M. Ajayi
Police prosecutor Corporal Cyriacus Osuji, alleged that ‎the lawyer committed the alleged offences between the month of August 2014 and January 2015.
According to him, the incident took place at Union Bank in Marina at about 12noon.
The prosecutor alleged that the lawyer fraudulently obtained the sum of N10 million, from one Ken Egbunike under false pretence of helping him to process and secure a title document at the Lagos State Ministry of Land.
Osuji further alleged that the defendant stole the said sum from the complainant.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences are punishable under sections 285 (5) and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
But the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties who are gainfully employed and with verifiable addresses. The lawyer, as part of the bail conditions, was also to submit the original of his ‘Call to Bar’ certificate to the court.
The case has been adjourned till April 28, for mention.
