In what looks like a macabre dance is playing out between Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and one of his aides.
An activist and former protangonist of the Edo State Governor, not many believed when Curtis Ugbo accepted to serve in the government of Oshiomhole.
However, from all indications the honey moon is over between them as Ugbo, a Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor, was Thursday arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court, Benin, over alleged gun running and criticising the Governor on the Internet.
Ugbo, 47, was arraigned in charge sheet number Mor/2314/2016 and titled Commissioner of Police Vs Curtis Ugbo, on a three- count charge of publishing an article against the Governor in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
He allegedly committed the offense on April 12, 2016, at 2B, Ugbor Road, GRA, Benin.
The said Internet publication with the caption: “what’s wrong with my Boss?” read thus: “The ground breaking of Edo State own[ed] cement industry in partnership with a private company under Government Public Private Partnership and stakeholders, No State House Members or Speaker and National Assembly Member Presence Notice[d]. Is Edo State now a personal business of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole?”
Ugbo was further accused of unlawful possession of a double barrel gun without a duly acquired valid license.
The Police Prosecutor told the Court that the accused person committed an offense punishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. II, laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable in Edo State.
The Accused who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was admitted to bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like term who must own a property with Certificate of Occupancy.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. C.A. Nwoha, adjourned the case till April 26 for hearing.
