No fewer than four persons have been reportedly killed in the last two days within the Benin metropolis, as result of renewed cult war between two rival groups identified as Black Axe and Eiye.
The latest fracas was said to have started on Sunday at a popular bar along Sokponba when an argument ensued between two persons from the two cult groups.
One of them suspected to be a member of Black Axe was allegedly cut with an axe and was later rushed to an hospital for treatment.
Apparently on revenge mission, his friends were said to have killed three members in different locations within the area, with the latest victim simply identified as Lawal who was reportedly shot dead around Ezoba area along Sokponba Road in the state capital.
It was reliably gathered that two days earlier, the suspected cultists attacked the younger brother of Lawal and was inflicted with deep machete cuts all over his body.
But just after his discharge from the hospital on Sunday, his assailants again struck and this time, found Lawal their main target who they were said to have shot at close range.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Osifo, who confirmed the clash to journalists on phone, however said he was yet to get the actual number of casualties.
“We did our intervention by deploying our men to the area. We are on a manhunt for those fingered and we are very sure that before the end of tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be able to arrest those that have been fingered in the action,” he said.
