A group, Esan Young Democrats (EYD), has called on the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Anselm Ojezua and all political appointees from the zone currently in the Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration to resign from their positions or be declared personal non-grata in Esan land if their demands were not met within five days.
The group urged all Esan traditional institutions, Esan sons and daughters, Professionals, market women associations and youth organizations to dust their party membership cards as well as voters’ cards to fight the injustice being meted on the Esan people by the Oshiomhole led government.
They insisted that any political arrangement being put in place by the ruling APC in the state must ensure that Edo Central Senatorial Zone produce the next governor, as Edo South and Edo North Senatorial zones have done eight years each in the governance of the state.
The group in a statement issued in Benin and signed by Mr. Sunny Idenekpoma (Coordinator) and Comrade Faruk Ehimegbe (Secretary), respectively, called for the Speakership position of the State House of Assembly to be given to Edo Central Senatorial Zone in the interest of peace, equity and fairness.
On the marginalization of Esan land by the current government, the group lamented that virtually all the political appointments in the state were in the hands of Edo North and Edo South Senatorial zones.
It listed such appointments to include: Governor (Edo North), Secretary to the State Government (Edo North), Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (Edo North), Vice Chancellor Ambrose Alli University (Edo North), Vice Chancellor Edo University Iyamho (Edo North) and Deputy Chief Whip Senate (Edo North).
Others are Deputy Governor (Edo South), Chief of Staff (Edo South), Chief Judge (Edo South), Federal State Minister of Health (Edo South), Head of Service (Edo South) and Head of Edo State Economic team (Edo South), while there was none from Edo Central.
In the same vein, the coalition for the Total Transformation of Esanland (CTTE), has threatened to mobilise the people of Edo Central senatorial district against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
According to a statement signed by Coordinator of the group, Mr Thomas Ayemere, if the speakership position in the state House of Assembly “is not returned to Esan central senatorial district, Esan people would work against the APC in the September 10 gubernatorial election”.
The group, observed that the present arrangement in the state and the Edo House of Assembly negates the principles of fairness, equity and justice.
It frowned at a situation where a senatorial district was currently occupying the position of the deputy governor and the speaker while the Edo central was left with nothing.
According to the statement, going into the election with this arrangement in the state would be disastrous, pointing out that it portrays marginalisation of the senatorial district.
The Esan group therefore, vowed to resist any attempt to further marginalise the Esan people by any political party.
”We promise to support any of the APC legislators who has the interest of Edo Central senatorial district at heart.
“The issue of being a first time legislator in the house should not arise as section two of the Edo House of Assembly rules stipulates that for a member to be a speaker or deputy speaker, he must have legislative experience.
”A requirement that both Mr Justin Okonoboh, a member represent APC Igueben and Festus Edughele, member representing APC Esan South East constituencies have, owing to their robust legislative activities,” the statement said.
