Mrs. Joy Ogundare has been arraigned by National Drug, Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for attempting to plant cocaine in the house of one Pastor Richard Ekenna.
However, the case was adjourned to June 15, 2016 at the instance of the defence counsel. NDLEA counsel, Waji Iliya, had produced witnesses in court for cross examination in the case of cocaine planting but the defence counsel, Bashir Sale, told the court that he needed time to study the case.
Justice Zainab, the trial Judge, then adjourned the case to June 15, 2016 while the accused is to be reminded in prison custody.
Mrs. Ogundare of Freetown Street, Sabongeri, Kano, is been accused attempting to plant 2.2 grammes of cocaine in the apartment belonging to Pastor Ekenna.
It would be recalled that NDLEA officials arrested the accused, while investigation revealed that the duo have a pending civil case at a magistrate court, Kano.
She was said to have attempted to implicate the Pastor in drug deal when the bubble burst for her
When it got to the attention of the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.), he was said to have ordered the prosecution of the lady and urged all angles to the case to be perfected to ensure victory at the end of the day.
“This is a very important case and we are doing everything possible to win. It will serve as a lesson to others that the law of retribution still exists. I have directed the prosecuting directorate to take all precautionary measures in ensuring victory”, Abdallah was quoted to have stated.
Kano State Commander who expressed optimism about the outcome of the case said that the command is working to eradicate the traffic and use of narcotic drugs in the state.
