There is confusion right now at the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as the former Chairman of the party, Alhaji Modu Sheriff has stormed the place to take over from the Ahmed Makarfi led executive.
Reports just coming in said Sheriff led group stormed the secretariat early on Monday morning, forcing people to run for cover.
But he was said to have been prevented from gaining entrance to the secretariat by the presence of heavy security operatives manning the gate of the Secretariat.
There has been a running battle among the three factions of the party as to which group controls the affairs of the party.
On May 21, 2016, when the party held its national congress in Port Harcourt, Sheriff had been dethroned and a caretaker committee, led by former Kaduna state Governor, Makarfi setup to steer the affairs of the party until another time election would be held to elect new officers for the party.
That same date another faction led by Jerry Gana also held a congress in Abuja, elected its own officers, which had Senator Ibrahim Mantu as Chairman.
However, Sheriff, who was Chairman before the party’s national convention held in Port Harcour had refused to accept the outcome, claiming he remained Chairman of the party.
