Scores Killed in Suspected Militants Invasion of Lagos, Ogun Communities

Scores of people were reportedly killed, Thursday night, when suspected militants invaded Igbo Olomu and its environs in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, including communities in Ogun State.
Some reports put the number of those killed as high as 30.
But the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said only two persons were killed.
He said, “Two people have been confirmed dead. The militants came again and attack the community. We will only continue to work collectively with all relevant agencies to stop the attacks. They came yesterday (Thursday) and attacked and went back to the creeks.”
According to eyewitnesses who escaped from one of the invaded areas, said the gunmen from the Niger Delta came through water channel since Thursday and started shooting sporadically.
The killing were said to have caused residents of the communities to flee their homes.
“I have seen four corpses. The militants have declared a war on us,” a resident, Giwa Bola, said.
Findings revealed that the militants, who were said to be returning around 11pm from the creeks where they had allegedly gone to perpetrate bunkering.
They were said opened fire on the vigilante.
As they fled, the militants were said to have chased them, gunning more of them down.
A source said 30 dead bodies had been accounted for from various points, and that many residents have fled the communities for safety.
“They came out from the creeks. The whole communities have already been deserted. We need the presence of the Nigerian Army, Air force and Navy to curtail the excesses of these militants,” the source said.
